From February the 18th till March the 4th MadPea is hosting a new one off event called the “MadPea International Food Fair” to raise funds for the Feed a Smile charity that helps impoverished children in the Rhonda Slums of Nakuru, Kenya. The event will have exclusive items, gachas and everything in between with all designers giving 50% of their earnings to “Feed a Smile”. Everything will be FOOD THEMED!
Each fabulous designer will make an exclusive item for the Food Fair and it can be a single item or a whole gacha set! There will be decor to clothing, poses to accessories and plenty of food! The sky is the limit but everything will be for the same amazing cause.
Thats right, who can resist pixel food? What’s even better is every digital delicacy will give 50% of all proceeds to help feed a real child. If that wasn’t enough to whet your appetite, we’ll be having live music events throughout the 15 days & an art exhibition curated by Kultivate Magazine so you can chow down and chill with some of the best artists in Second Life!
In 2016, 2015 and 2014, MadPea has been involved in helping raise money for Feed a Smile via Celebrity Auctions and events and have previously raised millions of lindens to feed impoverished children in Kenya and help build a school. This year, we want to help them build a kitchen to keep the children fed with warm, filling meals. They need to raise L$ 9,879,000 (37,000 USD) to complete the kitchen and we think we can help to make a difference.
For many children living in slums their future is desolate with illiteracy, AIDS, child prostitution, child brides, starvation and worse awaiting them. But you can help change that. Feed a Smile is part of the Live and Learn in Kenya charity that aim to break the cycle of poverty that plagues the slums by giving a brighter future for the children that live there. Not only do they provide education, but the clothing and supplies needed to learn, healthcare, food and just as important, safety.
Live and Learn in Kenya are able to make a difference thanks to the donations that fundraising can bring them, especially in Second Life. Our virtual world can make a big difference to the real world of these children and their families too.
Recently, their temporary kitchen has been all but blown down due to bad weather. It’s not suitable for purpose and definitely not to feed all the small mouths that need the nourishing meals the Mammas cook up inside.
So if you, or someone you know, is a designer who’d like to take part in our event you can fill in the application form here. Want to take part but not a designer?
